Candle Care
There are a variety of things you should be doing to maximize the performance, safety, and lifespan of your candle.

Wick Care

A properly trimmed wick will reduce the amount of soot it creates and will allow your candle to burn longer with stronger scent. Always trim the wick to 1/4 inch before lighting and after three hours of burn time. Never trim the wick while the candle is actively burning or before it has cooled after being extinguished. Doing this can create a mess and safety hazard.

Extinguishing

The safest, and most effective way to extinguish a candle is to dip the wick into the melted wax of the candle to snuff the flame. This prevents the wick from smoldering and creating a carbon-based ash residue and the smell of something not-so-good burning.

First Burn

The most important burn of a candle is the first one. Your candle should burn one hour per one inch of diameter. For example, our 4.5 ounce candle tins have a diameter of  2.8 inches, therefore, need to burn two hours and forty-five minutes before being  extinguished on the first burn. This allows the wax to melt out to the edges of the container and avoid memory rings that will cause further tunneling on future burns.

Candle Lifespan

Once there is about 1/2 inch of wax remaining in the container you should extinguish the flame to avoid any heat damage to the surface the candle is on. After the candle has fully cooled you can follow your favorite recycling or repurposing steps.

Burn Time

You should not let your candle burn for more than four hours. Once you reach the four hour point, follow our extinguishing recommendations below. Allow the candle to cool at least two hours, and trim the wick before burning again. Do not leave a burning candle unattended or burn near other heat sources, drafts, or flammables. Keep away from children and pets.

Storage

Store your candles in a cool dry place. We do not use additives in our products, so there is no  protection from UV sunlight, which can cause discoloration of candles and wax melts. Do not leave candles or wax melts in your vehicle since they can melt in the heat or separate in the cold. Candles should reach room temperature before burning.
